Colorist Work
The Amazing Spiderman 471
Pencils by
J. Scott Campbell, Inks by
Tim Townsend, Color by Me
Thanks to
SeanE for the Lineart, and obviously Campbell and Townsend for the solid Pencils and Inks.
When I started working this, I thought I'd go with the generic Grey for the webs. But creativity and color theory quickly took hold of my hand, and I decided to add a little complementary yellow and red to the webs. The part I had the most trouble with was the background. It took me an extra 2 hours of experimentation till I finally came up with the soft gradient. Since Campbell penciled so much detail into it, I felt that using too many cutouts would take away from the realism, so I stuck with mostly grads. Let me know what you think, and head over to Magmoman.com for some of my other work :)

Vagrant Story
Pencils by Mike Turner, Inks by
Tim Townsend, Color by Me
Most of the pieces I color, I do because I have a connection with the material. And Vagrant Story is no exception. It was an amazing game from back during the Golden Age of PSX RPG’s. There are a few technical flaws I know, but I didn’t end up fixing them because a) it didn’t fit with the context of the piece, or b) because I’m anal retentive, and I had to make myself finish it or it would never be done. A cool little trick I picked up when messing with the flames was (only temporarily) rendering them in 32bits per channel… very useful for strong light sources. Obviously I didn’t work the whole piece in this mode though. But its always an interesting technique for “finalizing” a piece. Anyway, be sure to leave a comment and let me know what you think :) . Magmoman…. Out!

Misplaced Variant Cover
Pencils by
Randy Green, Inks by
Rick Ketcham, Color by Me
Randy Green and Rick Katchem did an amazing job with this one, so I thought I'd test my skills. I've never read Misplaced, but the piece beckoned for me to color it, so I obliged. I colored the character from my own perspective, so color differences are intentional on not a "mistake".

Club Dead
Pencils by
Residentlilly, Inks by Joe Eiden, Color by Me
I was going to work on some Izryell pencils, but he hasn't replied to my e-mails

. So I was looking for a new peice from Residentlilly, and ran into this baby.
I think it turned out pretty well, and although there are little issues I have with some of my color choices, it was pretty fun to work on. There WAS going to be a Screen Cap video to go along with it, but my computer crashed during the 12 hour long Encoding process, and I didn't really feel like going through all that trouble again just to make a video that only ten people are going to watch.

I think it turned out amazingly well, and although there are little issues I have with it, it was pretty fun to work on. The issues I have are all faults that I find in my work. I'm sure you can spot them if you have an artistic eye, but I'm not going to flat-out tell you where they are

When I saw this in Izryell's Gallery, too many idea's and color schemes popped my head to pass it up

. Although it is a "Pencil to Color" job with no Inking, I think it turned out nicely.

Rockgirl
Pencils/Ink by

I don't know too much about this character, but when I saw her in Izryell's gallery, I had to tackle it. Maybe Izryell and I'll team up someday to tell you her story in a Graphic Novel?

There are four parts to creating a Comic Book. 1) Writing: Well obviously I can't write good :P. 2) Pencils: Negative on the Penciling Skill 3) Inking: Now here we go. In essance, Inking is taking the penciller's work and bringing the blacks to life, while cleaning those extra pesky lines that don't need to be there. 4) Color: Here's my so-called "Bag Baby!". In essance, my job is to take the Penciller/Inker's ideas and expand upon them with tools like Color Theory, Grads, Cut-Outs, ext.

Pencils by

Thanks to
SeanE for the pencil file. The toughest part in this one was the hatching. I've been trying to figure out a new/quicker way to make clean hatching, and I THINK I've done it. Anyways, enjoy, and expect color coming soon.

Thanks to

Whilst not being my favorite process in a comic, Inking is both nesscesary and time-consuming. Inking takes a lot more than tracing over the pencillers work: it takes a special eye to bring out elements that need more contrast, and take it away from parts that don't (among other things). It takes awhile to learn how to Ink, and its not for everyone, but there is a decent amount of reward involved when you can look at your work compared to the original pencils, and know that you brought out the hidden gem of the pencils.

Thanks to
SeanE for the Lineart, and obviously Campbell and Townsend for the solid Pencils and Inks.
As a Flatter for Hire, I can work in RGB, CMYK or Grayscale. If you prefer your Flats in Gray or Color, I can work in either. And of course, my attention to detail is extremely solid. Check out the

Some may argue the most arduous and time consuming part of a colorist's job is working the flats. For the non-colorist's out there, flats are basically used for separating out elements on a page in order to quickly select them later in the coloring process. When I do my flats, I usually work in Grayscale so that I can later adjust the colors without being tempted to use the flat's color. But as a Flatter for Hire, I can do most anything a colorist needs done, and have an uncanny attention to detail. If your a Colorist looking for a Flatter, head over to the Info Page and get in contact with me.
Photomanipulation
Good and Evil 2.0
Not technically my "Comic Art", but I suppose it's more so than Photomanipulation or Web Design. All made from scratch with Photoshop and Illustrator.
Golem Experiment
"Experiment" is in the title because I was testing out a new color matching technique with just curves and channels. It actually is the most efficient color matching technique I've found so far.
Multipass
"Leelo Dallas: MultiPass!". I was watching The Fifth Element (for the 1000th time) and was inspired

. I used the same color matching technique as I did in "Golem Experiment".
Matrix Reach
Yet another homage piece to the classic groundbreaking movie "The Matrix"
Excalibur
I like to think of my computer as my "Sword of Power".

Ahh, taking a still image and creating something different/better from it. In Photomanipulation, sure your limited as an artist, but I don't like to let that stop me from creating some awesome stuff. "Who would hire a Photomanipulator Talon?". Well look on your Cosmo or Vogue. There isn't a picture in there that hasn't been edited in some form of another. Let's say a Model has a pimple during the shoot.... My job is to remove that, bring out her skin tones, change the viewers focus, and MANY other tiny details. Next time you open up a magazine with models in it, look at those pictures and try to spot what has been changed by a Photomanipulator.
Web Design

Here's the final mockup of.. well.. the site. See if you can spot the Color Theory at work :P
Lazy Firefox
Firefox can be a bastard sometimes, and he sleeps on the job. This icon set depicts that to the core. Thanks go to Inarus for the photo, and to Jimmy Eat World for supplying the anti-bordem music.
Opera Man!
Slow browser speed? Looking for something new? Opera Man to the Rescue!
Microsoft Office Jelly
Everyone has used Microsoft Office. With that in mind, I tackled the Microsoft Office Icon set for the 1,000,000 time in Iconist history. Awesome Side Note: It has been featured in a Japanese Computer Magazine Called
"Windows 100%"!
Creative Suite Natural
Yes, I know these are from CS2, but who says you can't use them for CS3 or CS4? I was looking at the vector based icons a long time ago, and thought to myself, "Why not use stock photos of actual nature and make an Icon Set?" So I did, and here is Creative Suite Natural for your icon enjoyment.
Media Player Classic
This one didn't turn out great in my opinion. Given, it was a long time ago that I made these, and my skill set had not yet "Matured".
Windows Media Player

You want to see some of my Web Design stuff? Well look at the site! Everything here, I designed, coded, and implemented. But above are some of my works as an Iconist. Web Design has moved over the years from just coding the HTML, to create beautiful layouts that appeal to people. I like to think that I am apart of this new wave of Web Designers. Some of the stuff above is from 6 years ago. They are far from perfect, but I still keep them up as a reminder of my "roots".
