Hey everyone! It’s been awhile, hasn’t it? I’m sorry :( . Been pretty busy lately. I’m not sure if the artist want’s it to be known that I’m working for him (I’m sure he doesn’t care, but better safe than sorry), but I’ll just say that I’m Flatting for a big name Colorist. Some of the pages I’ve flatted, you’ll probably be seeing, and not even know it! On top of that, I’ve got a few indie comics I’m  working on. Expect more news about them in the future!

But anyways, I was watching The Totally Rad Show’s Top 5 of 2009 (One of the many amazing Revision 3 shows. Go check out Revision3.com; you won’t be disappointed, I guarantee it) and thought I’d do my own Top 5’s. So why don’t we get started?

Movies

I’ve seen many movies this year, and it was extremely hard picking just 5. But I thought I’d choose the ones that effected my on an emotional level and/or simply stunned me.

Games

I’ve been a Gamer for around 11 years, so I know my Video Games. Unfortunately, due to money restrictions, I hadn’t been able to jump on this System Generation (Xbox 360, PS3, ext) until recently. On top of that, my only selections are from the 360, since I don’t have a PS3 or powerful PC (yet!). But I’ve still got 5 games that I loved from last year, so enjoy.

Television

Som of these shows premiered long before 2009. But I thought I’d adjust the rule to say “Shows still alive in 2009″ :)

The Amazing Spider-Man 471
Pencils by J. Scott Campbell, Inks by Tim Townsend, Color by Me

Thanks to SeanE for the Lineart, and obviously Campbell and Townsend for the solid Pencils and Inks.
When I started working this, I thought I’d go with the generic Grey for the webs. But creativity and color theory quickly took hold of my hand, and I decided to add a little complementary yellow and red to the webs. The part I had the most trouble with was the background. It took me an extra 2 hours of experimentation till I finally came up with the soft gradient. Since Campbell penciled so much detail into it, I felt that using too many cutouts would take away from the realism, so I stuck with mostly grads. Let me know what you think, and head over to Magmoman.com for some of my other work

Vagrant Story
Pencils by Mike Turner, Inks by Tim Townsend
(Click on the image for the Full Resolution)
Most of the pieces I color, I do because I have a connection with the material. And Vagrant Story is no exception. It was an amazing game from back during the Golden Age of PSX RPG’s. There are a few technical flaws I know, but I didn’t end up fixing them because a) it didn’t fit with the context of the piece, or b) because I’m anal retentive, and I had to make myself finish it or it would never be done. A cool little trick I picked up when messing with the flames was (only temporarily) rendering them in 32bits per channel… very useful for strong light sources. Obviously I didn’t work the whole piece in this mode though. But its always an interesting technique for “finalizing” a piece. Anyway, be sure to leave a comment and let me know what you think . Magmoman…. Out!
